Where to Refer Patients for Help Preventing violence is a goal of the American Medical Association, the Minnesotat Medical Association, and a concern of our office. We offer the following to help in case of need: WHERE TO REFER PATIENTS FOR HELPMinnesota Coalition for Battered Women 1619 Dayton Avenue, Suite 303 St. Paul, MN 55104 In the Twin Cities metropolitan area, call the coalition's 24-hour crisis line 651 646-0994. Or call the coalition office at 651 646-6177 In Greater Minnesota, call 651 646-6177 or 800-289-6177 for information or a local referral. The coalition will put you in touch with emergency shelters, advocacy services and legal advocacy resources for battered women in communitites throughout the state of Minnesota. Some focus on specific populations such as Hisspanic or Native American women as well as women with disabilities. Know the name of the program in your area and keep the phone number handy to give patients who need emergency shelter or support. All the programs are free, confidential and available 24 hours a day.

This agency provides educational programs and information on ways to detect and prevent child abuse.

Community University Health Care Center 612-627-4774 2016 16th Avenue South Minneapolis, MN 55404 The Community University Health Care Center Provides counseling and social services in Southeast Asian languages.
Call 800-247-0390 for 24-hour referral services for crime victims.
PRIDE 612-729-0340 These programs provide support services for women abused in prostitution and pornography.
If a person confides that he or she is violent to a child or spouse or elderly parent, tell him or her: "It's never okay to hit someone; in fact, it's a crime. If you are hitting someone you love, stop it and get help. If you hurt family members, you are teaching your children to be violent." Refer them to Parents Anonymous or to a domestic abuse intervention project. Call the Minnesota Coalition for Battered Women for the name of an intervention project for abusers in your area. Call for information about your local chapter of Parents Anonymous. Support group meeting for parents are free and child care is provided.
